You will find Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao, the most important temple in the city, supposedly founded by the first ruler of Lampang. The legend says the temple was founded on the very spot of this occurrence. The image is now enshrined in another temple in Lampang, the Wat Phra That Lampang Luang.

Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao is over 1,000 years old. The temple was built between 1782 and 1809, during which the Chiang Saen people had been captured and herded to locate in Khelang town to recall goodness of MrsSuchada after being sentenced to death because of misunderstanding. However, the truth was revealed later. It was believed that the temple was a home and a watermelon farm of Goddess Suchada in the past. You can pay respect to the pagoda, where Lord Buddha’s relics are stored. The imposing 50 meter high structure consists of a white square base with a circular, gold plated spire on top of it. The pagoda that is named Chedi Phra Boromathat enshrines a hair relic of the Buddha.
You will want to take a look at the shrine of Lady Suchada. She was the one who found a piece of emerald inside a watermelon. That emerald was made into a Lord Buddha statue. Later, the statue was taken to Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, due to the love affiar between Lady Suchada and a senior monk. At last, Lady Suchada was executed. Thinking about history can help you forget bad things you’re having right now.

How to get there
Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao is located at Wiang Nua District, Muang County, Lampang province. Cross Rassadapisek Bridge. Then turn right to get into Phra Kaew Road.
