How to get there

Wat Phra That Doi Leng is located in Cho Hae District, Muang County. To get there, you just have to start from the southeast side of Phra That Cho Hae and keep going for about 3 kilometres. Or you can just start from the northeast side of Phra That Chom Chaeng and keep going for about 4 kilometres instead. You just have to drive along the Highway No.101 and switch to 1101. It’s just the same route to Phra That Cho Hae, only that you have to turn left to Ban Tung Hong before you reach Phra That Cho Hae. Then turn right to the Highway No.1024. Pha Nang Khoi Cave is a cave in Phrae Province, Thailand. There is a sad legend of itself. Long time ago, a princess named Aranyanee fell in love with a man named Kanongdetch. The princess was pregnant, so she and her man decided to run away together. They both were hunted by a group of soldiers. The princess was fatally shot at her chest, before they both managed to struggle to reach this cave. The princess gave birth to her son inside the cave and told her man to run away for his life. The legend says that the princess intended to wait for her man forever and that caused her to transform into stone.

Pha Nang Khoi Cave consists of limestone, located in the middle of a forest. There are bunches of trees around it. In the past, there were a lot of animals around. However, as time went by, the area was adapted for agricultural prodecures and animals were reduced.

Pha Nang Khoi Cave is on a 50-metre cliff. That’s quite high. Beside, the cave itself is also a long, deep tunnel for about 150 metres. To get in there, you need to be extra careful. It’s quite dark inside and there are lots of stalactites and rough rocks. You don’t want to trip over something or bump your head with something.

Inside the cave, there is a Lord Buddha statue, which tourists love to pay respect to. You and your family will want to do that too. Pray for something that you care about.

Then you can continue your walking inside the cave. There are some lights of different colors: blue, red, green etc. inside the cave. That gives a relaxing feeling and make you see where you’re going. Still, you can’t be too careful. In fact, it will be best if you wear proper shoes, not slippers ot high heels.

How to get there

Pha Nang Khoi Cave is about 34 kilometres away from the heart of Phrae. You can just get there by keep going along the Highway No.101. Turn left at the 58th or the 59th kilometres and continue straight for about 800 metres. Doi Pha Klong National Park is quite large. It’s about 188.77 square kilometres. The area mostly consists of high mountains. There are rocks on some parts. Woodlands around there are plentiful. Most of the area is mixed deciduous forest inserted with dry evergreen forest and Dipterocarp forest There are rare and nearly extinct wild animals e.g. mountain goat, barking deer, black bear, warthog and various birds. In the streams in the forest, there are many kinds of small fish, reptile and amphibian found.

Tourist Attractions at Doi Pha Klong National Park

• Erawan Cave : Erawan Cave not far from Kangluang is also a place of interest. Erawan Cave is regarded as a wonderful place. To visit this cave, you must cross the Mae Yom River and go on foot, climbing about 200 metres up the mountain. It is like a wide hall with a high ceiling and beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. One huge rock looks like the Erawan Elephant. Standing at the entrance of the cave, it is cool and comfortable. Apart from Kangluang and Erawan Cave, if you cross the Mae Yom River and walk for 2 kms, threr is a range of hilltribe villages, such as Lisu and Akha. The fascinating hilltribe culture includes costumes, music, dancing, crafts and ghost gates.
• Chan Pha Cave : It’s a huge bat cave with lots of bat’s dung, located on the north of stone garden. It’s one of the beautiful cave decorated with stalactites
• Hin Pakarang Mountain : Hin Pakarang Mountain is a very beautiful limestone mountain which the National Park Office builds a route for traveler to enjoy scenery full of Chunpha (Dracaena sp.) along the route. The limestone in the area haas been carved by nature look like Khunming Rock Garden in China but it is smaller.
• Kaeng Luang : A leading attraction, Kaeng Luang is located in Tambon Ban Pin, Long district. To get there, go on the Phrae-Lampang road for about 50 kilometres, then take a right turn at Km.69 and continue on for another 7 kilometres. The scenery is lovely and amid the Yom river are rocky formations which create fast-flowing rapids. On the other side of the river, which can be crossed by ferry, and with a 100-metre walk uphill, will be found the Erawan Cave adorned with elephant-and-female-shaped hanging and protruding crops of rock.
• Suan Hin Maharaj : Tham Jan Pha (cave), Phukhao Hin Pakarang (coral mountain) or Rong Hin Taek (cracked rock chanel). There are 2 nature trails: At Suan Hin Maharaj and Phukhao Hin Pakarang. Hiking in the woods, visiting caves, camping, sighting birds, rafting and cycling among the nature are the interesting activities.

Mae Yom National Park ‘Have a camp with your whole family.’

A national park is a good place to spend holidays with your family, as it’s surrounded with beautful nature. And Mae Yom National Park is a suggested one, at least if you don’t know which national park you should go to. This one will give you a super nice atmosphere.

Mae Yom National Park is located in Song County, Phrae Province. However, in fact, it takes place in both Lampang and Phrae, as it’s large, about 454.75 square kilometres.

Geography

The location of Mae Yom National Park has its high mountain ranges on both east and west part, which slope down to Yom River which flows through the middle of the area. The high mountain range is the source of water of many streams flowing to Yom River such as Huay Mae Pung, Huay Ded, Huay Pung, Huay Lerm, Huay Mae Tent, Huay Mae Sakin, and Huay Mae Pu.

There are three seasons in Mae Yom National Park.
Rainy season – from June to September
Winter – from October to January
Summer – from February to May

Flora and Fauna

There are separate kinds of plants; in the valley and near streams and river are mixed trees such as Yang, Krabak (a kind of Dipteroceae), Moulmein cedar, Tabag (a kind of Lagerstroemia), etc; up from the valley and streams are montane trees such as pine, evergreen chinkapin, saramolla grass, etc; in the mixed forest which semi-evergreen trees such as Makhaa mong, ironwood, Burmese ebony, and natural teak growing densely; and deciduous trees and shrub are normal found on the foot of the hills such as Siamese sal, ingyin, Heang (a kind of Dipterocarpus obtusifolius) and eng.

Because there is the forbidden forest, which not allow lumber mill to locate in this area, so that makes it be the habitat of big animals such as elephant, barking deer, mountain goat, Asiatic black beer and wild boar, and small animals such as hare, jungle fowl, loris and many kinds of bird.

• Dong Sak Ngam : Dong Sak Ngam looks like a group of teak densely gown up along the Yom River’s side in the area of Mae Pung and Mae Pao Conservative National Parks. Teak grown up here is big, tall and beautiful. During October-November, you will face with shadiness and bright yellow teak flowers. Dong Sak Ngam is 6 Km. away from the office of the park.
• Kaeng Sua Teng : Kaeng Sua Teng is a natural isle in Yom River with 4 Km. in length. The name Kaeng Sua Teng was given after a natural stone (on the isle) that bore footprints of a tiger. There are beaches around Kaeng Sua Teng, which are suitable for tent camping. This isle is located in front of the park office.
• Lom Dong : Lom Dong is a big natural water source, of which the diameter is about 100 m., located on a high mount, containing water the through year. It was supposed to be a hollowed ground of that area and has become the water source for the wild animals. Lom Dong is about 10 Km. away from the Headquarters.

If you wish to get there with your family, you will have to talk to each other and decide to travel during a proper season. The hottest month is April, about 33 degree Celcius. The coolest month is January, about 14 degree Celcius. But the average temperature is 26 degree Celcius all year round. Therefore, you should bring some jackets with you too, in case you suddenly feel cold.

You will want to explore the woodlands around the national park for the first thing. There are different types of forests there, for examples, mixed forest, deciduous dipterocarp forest, pine forest, etc. Just feel like you’re in some cartoon movies of Disney that present scenes in forests.

If you meet any animals, just be friendly to them. There are many of animals, mostly birds and mammals.

Next, you will want to get around and have a sightseeing. There are many beautiful spots for sightseeing, including the one that is 13 kilometres away from the national park office. This one is especially for foggy sightseeing. By being at it, you will see mountains in the middle of thick fog.

Last but not least, camping. You won’t want to leave a national park if you didn’t have a full-fun camping. At Mae Yom, there are shelthers and camping grounds for tourists. If you want yout camping to be more natural and exciting, you will want to choose a camping ground. Just set your tent and enjoy sleeping in the middle of trees and mountains. To go to the park, take the route Phrae – Nan to the crossroads of Rong Kwang District. Then turn in to Rong Kwang – Ngao road till you reach Song District. Here we’re talking about ‘Ban Sao Roi Ron’. This place is full of what you and your children can learn about.

Ban Sao Roi Ton, or Ban Pra Tab Jai, is a kind of traditional museum. It’s a Thai traditional house made of authentic teakwood, built in the year 1976 b y Father Kijja. Father Kijja wanted a teakwood house as his own residence. Therefore he bought 9 old houses from villagers and combined them into one large house.

The name ‘Sao Roi Ton’ can be translated into English as ‘hundred poles’. Yes. This house consists of over hundred poles. Each pole is over 300 years old and carved neatly.

Grab your children’s hand and take them in there. The admission fee is only 15 Baht per one Thai tourist, but it costs 20 Baht for a foreign tourist. That’s very affordable.

Inside the house, you will be stunned by many antiques and traditional things. They’re just fabulous. There are two floors of the house. So, start with the first floor, you will admire a lot of beautiful house decoration items. They’re all made of teakwood. There are many rooms. Just walk around but don’t ruin or touch anything.

Then go the the second floor, you will see more of teakwood furnitures. They’re valuable and worthy of visiting by people, especially young children.

Beside of teakwood furnitures, there are still many more, including old vases or blue and white porcelains.

Pae Muang Pee Forest Park, it’s just good for people of all ages, even small children and elderly people.

Pae Muang Pee Forest Park is a kind of national park. Well, not exactly as a national park, but it’s quite similar anyway. The place is mostly surrounded with rock cliffs and lands of orange-brown color, just like Grand Canyon. There aren’t many trees, but the atmosphere is still good.

The origin of Pae Muang Pee landscape caused by eroded dirt and sandstone. The landscape appears as many shapes. It’s quite large, with about 267,200 square metres area.

There aren’t certain historical stories of this place. However, people have been saying, the place was once a beautiful green area, full of trees and animals. There was a grandma named ‘Grandma Soom’. Grandma Soom tried to pick some fruits and vegetables as her food, but she lost her way and found piles of silver and gold instead. She put gold and silver in her sack and tried to take them home. But those gold and silver mysteriously disappeared from the sack after she got home. Nobody knew why. Later, the place was named as ‘Pae Ya Soom Kad Rao’ (***’ya’ is the Thai translation of ‘grandma’). But it was finally changed into ‘Pae Muang Pee’.

If you take your family to Pae Muang Pee, there are many activities that you can enjoy. First of all, you will want to explore those natural surroundings. There are several paths of nature exploring for tourists, provided by the authorities. Anyway, this activitiy is only good if you’re in perfect health. It’s not suitable for small children and elderly people, as they can get exhausted easily due to their illnesses or physical conditions.

If you don’t want to walk a lot, then you can just put your mat on the ground and have a leisure picnic with your family. This is perfect for elderly people and small children. They won’t get exhausted. Beside of this one, you can take lovely photos together.

How to get there 

Pae Muang Pee can be reached by following the Highway No.101. It takes about 7 kilometres from the heart of Phrae. After driving for 7 kilometres, you should find your way to turn right. Just turn right and continue straight for about 3 kilometres.

If you don’t have a car, you can just hire a vehicle at Phrae Transport Station or a motorcycle or you can contact us to arrange the private tour package for at least 2 days 1 night.

The name ‘Wiang Kosai’ is based on the former name of Phrae Province. The national park itself is the first national park of Phrae, which takes place in Long County and Wang Chin County of Phrae, and Thoen County, Sob Prab County, and Mae Ta County of Lampang.

The place is beautiful. However, you need to be careful if you have small children or elderly people with you, as Wiang Kosai National Park mostly consists of high mountains. Be sure to watch them very carefully while walking. Don’t lose them. In fact, people who’re not in perfect health or physical condition, especially people with heart disease or bone disease, are not suppose to go to the national park.

Geography

The landscape is high steep mountains, the average steep is 80 degree. The highest point from sea level equals 1,267 meters whereas the average equal 800 meters. Covering with evergreen forest and mixed deciduous forests and overlapping high steep cliffs that are the sources of many streams e.g. Mae Koeng, Mae Jork, Mae Sin and Mae Pak. Since mountain is sandstone, it makes the soil decayed from the mountain become sandy soil with fine ventilation. The plain area nearby the slopes of the hill is good condition laterite soil.

Climate

Summer, March to May, the maximum temperature is around 39°C in April. From June to October is the rainy season and during the winter, November to February, The minimum temperature is around 13°C in December.

Flora and Fauna

In the upper side of the mountain range covers with dry evergreen forests whereas the lower side are mixed deciduous forests. The important plants are Oramosia, rubbers, genus diospyros, Lagerstroemia, red pterocarpus and teaks, and also the forest floor e.g., bamboo, palms, rattans, dendrobium, etc.

The forests are the living place of various kinds of wild animals e.g. tiger, elephant and deer. But a large number of the animals were hunted illegally. Nowadays there are only small animals to see such as barking deer, wild boars, squirrels, chipmunks and several kinds of birds that are plentifully lives in the valleys and river sources.

Tourist Attractions at Wiang Kosai National Park

• Dong Ta Kien: In a sidewalk 15 Km from the headquarter is a dense bush of Ta Kien Tong (Hopea odorata Roxb.) with 100 years of age. The biggest one is about 2 meters diameter.
• Huge Vine: Only 1 Km from the head quarter of the park.
• Mae Jork Hot Spring: Mae Jork Hot Spring Located next to Mae Jork School, Mae Pak Sub-district, Wang Chin District, Prae Province. It is a hot spring coming up from the ground having a temperature of about 80°C. It looks strange and very beautiful, especially in the morning that covers with fog coming from steam right here.
• Mae Koeng Luang and Mae Koeng Noi Waterfalls: Mae Koeng Luang and Mae Koeng Noi Waterfalls are beautiful cascading waterfalls composed of 5 stages like stairs, thus the local words “Mae Koeng” means stairs. These 2 waterfalls comes join together to Yom River at Ban Sob Koeng, Wang Chin District, Prae Province.
• Mae Sin Waterfall: A small waterfall with rinsing water year round. You can walk through the side walk for 4 Km.
• Pan Jen Waterfall: A small waterfall located upon Mae Koeng River as same as Mae Koeng Luang waterfall. 1 Km far from the headquarter, at the Ban Khang Jai School then turn right and go foe another 6 Km long.

Choosing a proper season is also important. There are 3 seasons at the national park: summer, cold season, and rainy season. The hottest temperature is 39 degree Celcius, which is somewhere during April. The coldest temperature is 13 degree Celcius, which is during December.You and your family have to decide together which the favourite season of you guys is. Then book tickets.

When you’re in the national park, it will be happy for you to have a sightseeing, have a picnic, explore the woodland, play the waterfall, and do many other things. Just keep the area clean and don’t ruin anything. Always teach your children about that. There are many animals at the national park, mostly small ones like squirrels and birds. Show your children how to love and have mercy for them.

For the best experience, you and your family may want to spend some nights at the national park. There are camping spots, where you can set up your own tents, and shelthers. Sleeping at the national park is good, because you can getup early to see the sunrise on mountaintop and eat nice breakfast. That will be an unexplainable good feeling.

How to get there

To get to Wiang Kosai national park, you should drive along the Highway No.101 until you pass Denchai County for about 10 kilometres. Then you turn right into the Highway No.11. Continue straight for about 40 kilometres until you reach Wang Chin County. Turn the left and keep going for another 13 kilometres or you can contact travel agency in Chiang Mai to arrange a private tour for you.
