Chiang Khong District – Attractions in Chiang Khong

Chiang Khong is a small district located on the bank of the Mekong River, opposite Huaixai, Lao PDR. The district is renowned for its impressive cultivation of Pla Buk, the giant catfish, which is the largest freshwater fish in the world. The Chiangkhong Fishery Station is capable of inseminating and breeding Pla Buk, and fingerlings produced here have been released into several rivers. The fishing season starts from mid-January and lasts until May, and this is the perfect time to witness the Pla Buk cultivation in action.
