Sukhothai Historical Park‘Stunningly beautiful ruins of the first capital of Siam’
Sukhothai Historical Park one of the pearls of Thai architecture.
Sukhothai is an important province of Thai history. There have been many stories about it. The province is on the lower part of northern Thailand. It appears in a shape of rectangle. There are many ancient temples and other architectures there.
Visiting an old place is a valuable experience, as you will learn about things in the past: what people did, how people lived etc.
If you have no clue of where you can go in Sukhothai, then let this following place be one of your choices.
Sukhothai Historical Park.
This park takes places around many ancient architectures of the province. It’s on the opposite side of the Ramkhamhang National Museum.
By going there, you will learn what became of Sukhothai in the past. Yes. The province was once a capital town of Thailand, a very successful town, of course.
There are many zones in Sukhothai Historical Park.
- Ramkhamhang Monument
- Wat Mahathat
- Wat Chaichana Songkram
- Wat Sa Sri
- Wat Sri Sawai
- Ta Pha Dang Shrine
- Tourist Service Centre
- etc.
Don’t forget to bring your camera with you. Something like these architectures are very rare. You don’t want to leave their images behind you.
You should dress in proper costumes, something that can make you walk and move conveniently, as you will have to walk a lot. Wearing unsuitable costumes can interrupt your fun of the trip.

However, if you bring a car, you will have to pay more money.
The park is available everyday from 6:00am-21:00pm. If you want to go during night time, don’t forget to bring a lamp or a flashlight with you.
There are also trams in the park, in order that tourists can sit on them and wander around without feeling exhausted. The service price for a Thai tourist is only 10 Baht, and 20 Baht for a foreign tourist. Or, if you want to do some exercise, you may rent a bike, which will cost only 20 Baht. In fact, renting a bike may be better. You can make yourself healthy and travel around this peaceful place by yourself at the same time.
Good place to go with friends and family. If you want to travel there in a large group, you may contact the service centre, in order to get some convenient services. Or, if you want a docent or a tour guide, that will be no problem.
How to get there
Again, the park is on the opposite side of Ramkhamhang National Museum.
To get there, you can just take an old-line truck and the driver will give you a ride to Sukhothai Historical Park.
If you have a car, you can drive along the Highway No.1 and No.101, sequently. You have to go through Pran Kratai County and Kirimas County for about 440 kilometres
From Bangkok, You may get a tour bus from Mochit Station too. That will be fine. But the travel time will be very long, probably 7 hours. If you get exhausted easily, then this shouldn’t be your choice, same as driving a car yourself. Be sure to be in perfect health if you want to choose any of these methods.
