Overview : Leave Chiang Mai in the morning for a private tour to Lamphun and Lampang. Head to Lampang and visit Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, one of the North’s finest temples. This temple features a Vihara with a carved wood facade and double-level roofs. Harmonious proportions and exquisite interior decoration make Wat Phra That Lampang Luang one of the best examples of Northern-style religious architecture. Afterwards, experience Lampang City’s people, temples, and markets by horse-cart riding, a symbol of Lampang.

Then, drive to Lamphun to visit Wat Prathat Hariphunchai, a magnificent temple complex at Lamphun. This ancient Mon capital was founded by Princess Chama Devi, probably in the 9th century. Next, drive to Jamdevi temple as part of your private tour of Lamphun and Lampang. Visit the largest of the two, a very unusual square ‘stepped pyramid’ shaped pagoda. The pagoda is supposed to contain the ashes of Queen Chama Devi.

Return back to Chiang Mai, passing the scenic route along the tree-lined Chiang Mai-Lamphun Road. For a distance of 12 kilometers, as far as the Chiang Mai – Lamphun provincial boundary, the road is lined by lofty 30-meter high yang trees, interspersed with fruit orchards, small farms, and paddy fields.
