Wat Hua Wiang, or Wat Klang Wiang, was built in the year 1863. At first, the temple was established on the head of Mae Hong Son downtown. From Thai to English, ‘hua’ means ‘head’. That is why the temple is called ‘Wat Hua Wiang’.

Days after days, a lot of houses and buildings were built around the temple. That forced the temple not to be on the same spot. That’s not a problem, however. The location is not a big deal after all. What important is its beauty. The temple still looks beautiful and attracts quite many tourists.

The atmosphere at Wat Hua Wiang is not very joyful. It is quiet and peaceful. Things that surround it are grass and trees. There is also a vihara decorated in Shan and Burmese style and a white pagoda. But the highlight of the temple is ‘Phra Chao Paralakhaeng’, the Lord Buddha statue of the temple, which you should pay respect to and make a wish, just for your own good fortune.

How to get there

Wat Hua Wiang is located on Singhanatbamrung Road, Muang Mae Hong Son. You need to start your trip from the town hall, in order to drive along the Highwat No.1095. Keep going straight to Bang Ma Pha County, but don’t go all the way there. You just have to drive through an interesection and turn right at it. In a hot second, you should see the temple near Sai Yood Market. if you still worry for getting lost, you can contact travel agency to arrange the car rental with driver for you.

Opening hours and Entrance fee : The temple opens daily during daylight hours. Admission fee is free.
