Chiang Mai Moutain Bike Adventure : The Eagles Route

This is a great Intro ride to Off Road (Jeep Track) mountain biking. The descent through Doi Suthep National Park presents us with great views of the Mae Ping Valley below, amazing forest landscapes which makes this Trip one of the most scenic and popular Mountain Bike Rides in Chiang Mai and all without traffic..

Tour Overview

Overview : Hotel pickup is at 930 am. After preparations and signup at the our shop , a 45 minute drive takes us to the top of Doi Pui Mountain, 1600m elev.
Here in the  Doi – Suthep National Park above Chiang Mai, we begin our journey. At our starting point we make final preparation on your bikes, Beginners enjoy a thorough safety briefing and a test ride confirms rider and equipment are ready.

This first part of the trip to the Khun Chang Kian Coffee Plantation  helps us to evaluate your riding ability. We continue training you in Downhill Riding Techniques.

The jeep track leads through large tree growth and the cooler temperature  becomes very pleasant with the wind blowing in our faces. Loud less on bikes we take in the Forest sounds and our full concentration sharpens our senses. The gentle, with at times steep downhill terrain keeps on our toes , Absolute no lengthy up hills disturb the rhythm and spirit of the ride, At our first resting point at the Coffee Plantation, home of the Arabic Coffee, we enjoy the beautiful views of Chiang Mai and the Plantations

We engage with the locals and some have gotten to know us well, still largely untouched by the mainstream though one can feel the shift in priorities. The Hmong People (Khun Chang Kian Hilltribe village) here tend to their hill side farm land granted by the National Park. At the right season you can stuff your belly with Lychees, Bananas, carrots, I would cook the radish and corn though.

The challenging terrain of the route captures our full attention. The wild growth of the forest hugs the path. The trip is at a relaxed pace, but for those who have experience single tracks paralleling the jeep route are now the focus.  So if you are escorting the better half you can take a little detour and get your technical single track fix.

With plenty of view points and puddles to challenge we ride towards Lake Huay Tueng Tao at the base of Doi Pui Mountain.  At the Lake our favorite Lunch spot prepares the well deserved meal, a cold drink and the local fruit in season for us.

After a cool drink or maybe even a swim we glance at the mountain that just gave us a 4000 foot elevation drop. After Lunch we head back to Chiang Mai the lazy way, in the truck and full of great memories.
