Start with elephant show, the show requires about 40 minutes or so. You’re gonna love this for sure. You join the show, and you will see elephants do many cute things, for examples, painting, pushing logs, playing with the mahouts. Beside, you should see how talented these mahouts are. They are able to control the elephants, make the elephants do many things. They communicate with the elephants by a specific controling language or body motion. This will be exciting and joyful. You are ablel to watch the show 3 times a day, at 10:00am, 11:00am, and 13:30pm.

Next, you will want to see the elephants taking a bath. That is super cute! The mahouts will take the elephants down to the pond and clean them. You can see this show at 9:45am and 13:15pm, only two times a day. Therefore, be punctual or you will regret it! Don’t you ever miss it!

If you have a child or an elderly member in family, you may want to take him/her on an elephant’s back to have a wonderful sightseeing. There will be seats being tightly tied on every elephants’ backs. You just go up, have a seat, and the mahout will be with you too, in order to keep the elephant walking around. You will have a chance of seeing cool water and green forest area. You can choose your own time period for the trip, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour, depending on your time and money.

If you love the elephant so much and even want to take care of them, you may join a course from mahout-training courses. These courses will train you to be a good mahout. There are many types of course, from one-day course to over-night course. Just choose the one that suits you most.

The best part is probably elephant’s poop paper. Huh? But that’s true, however. There is a kind of paper that is really made of elephant’s poop. You may have heard about Elephant Poopoo Paper Park in Chiangmai. Yes. This activity is similar. You will also have a chance of observing how this kind of paper is made. Its name may sounds kinda weird to you. But, believe it, when the papers are finished, they look really beautiful.

You can take photos with those elephants, but please only do that when the mahouts are with you, for your own safety. You can also walk around by yourself to see some exhibitions of elephants, with pictures and texts, to get some new knowledge.

Lastly, Visit elephant hospital. Thai Elephant Conservation Center acts as a centre for research and is at the forefront in treating sick elephants in Thailand. In addition to an on-site hospital, a mobile clinic and rescue unit treats elephants in distress free of charge wherever they may be in the kingdom. There is also a special area (the Pang La sanctuary) dedicated to looking after those elephants that are simply too old or have been badly injured and their former owners can no longer afford to keep them. Some of the elephants that are brought to Elephant Conservation Center suffer from preventable injuries and part of the centre’s outreach program is the Elephant Care Manual which is combined with practical tips and advice for mahouts and owners to teach them better ways to look after their elephants. Your visit will help pay for a high-cost elephant hospital that treats the sick and injured ones from around the country.

How to get there 

Thai Elephant Conservation Center is located in Hang Chat County, Lampang Province.

It’s not very difficult to go, as the center is only about 24 kilometres away from Muang County. You may get a public vehicle if you don’t have a care. But if you have one, you may just go along the Highway No.11. After you arrive at the 28th or 29th kilometre, you will see your way to turn into the center or for more comfortable, we can provide a private tour for your group.

Opening hours and Entrance fee :

Watching the shows at 10:00, 11:00 and 13:30, you can ride elephants at any time of the day between 08:00 and 15:30 and watch the elephants being bathed from 09:45 to 13:30.

Entrance fee :

  • The show costs 200 THB per person and 150 THB for Children.
  • Rides start at 200 THB for adults for 10 minutes, 500 THB for 30 minutes or 1,000 THB for one hour. (The 10-minute ride is per person while the longer rides are per elephant, so for two people)
  • A shuttle bus ticket around the vast site costs an additional 25 THB
