If you happen to be in Mae Hong Son, perhaps you want to make a small stop at ‘Bua Tong Field in Doi Mae-U-Kho’.

Bua Tong is a kind of flower, also known in scientific name as ‘Tithonia diversifolia’. Although it originated in Mexico, but you can find it in various countries, including Thailand. It’s beautiful but can destroy ecological system sometimes. Therefore, its breeding need to be strictly controlled.

Bua Tong Field at Doi Mae-U-Kho is very enormous. It is about 1.6 millions square metres large. In fact, it is considered as the biggest Bua Tong field in Thailand. When you go there, you will feel totally relaxed. Mountains are all around. Yellow-colored flowers are all around. The overall atmosphere almost represent scenes in some movies like The Sound of Music, The Lord of the Rings, Fiddler on the Roof, Beauty and the Beast etc.

Those Bua Tong flowers only bloom during winter. Therefore if you get there during other seasons, there will be no use. Once a year, just go in winter.

This place is good for everyone. A newly-married couple can use this as one of their honeymoon places. A family can bring their children there to inhale the fresh air together. A group of friends can take a lot of selfies together.

How to get there

The Bua Tong Field at Doi Mae-U-Kho is about 25 kilometres away from Khun Yuam County Office.

Be in the heart of Mae Hong Son first. Use the Highway No.108. Keep going until you can turn left at the 201st kilometre. That should lead you to the Highway No.1263. Keep the same route for about 12 kilometres. Then turn to the road name Ban Na Ngew-Ban Hua Ha. Finally, continue for another 14 kilometres, going straight, and you will find your destination.
