Attractions in Mae La Noi District
One of the 7 districts of Mae Hong Son, Mae La Noi remains very traditional. Most of the population here are Shan, Lawa, or Karen Hill tribe. The town is very small with a market, ATM, hospital, post office. Most people pass by this town on the way from Mae Sariang to Muang Mae Hong Son. The most famous thing about Mae Lanoi is ‘Kaew Komol’ cave an ancient calcite crystal cave. Another attraction are the hill tribe villages nestled in the mountains off the main road in Mae Lanoi.

Hilltribe Villages
Hilltribe Villages : There are lots of authentic and traditional hill tribe villages (Lawa and Karen) that can be found nestled in the mountains and lowlands of Mae La Noi. The remote location means that most of these villages are still traditional and rarely see tourists passing through. As you get further into the mountains, some villages are only accessible by 4WD. To find and visit these villages it is advisable to go with a local guide.
Kaew Komol Cave
Kaew Komol Cave : A popular attraction for Thai tourists. Kaeo Komol Cave Forest Park is a Calcite Cave, was discovered by Mae Hong Son official engineering. The cave wall are laminated with crystal of calcite. It is the only one calcite cave in Southeast Asia. The glittering calcite shines sparklingly in the cave walls, making it looks like shade of clear ice. Only a flashlight which you don’t necessarily need for the cave is well lit. Worth a visit. The entrance fee is 80 baht, includes the truck service up and down the steepest hill from the ticket booth. The cave is located 5 km. from Mae Lanoi Market.
Ban La-Up is a community located in Mae La Noi County. It’s well-known for an agricultural tourist attraction. Lawa people inhabit there, mostly, for over a hundred of years. Regularly, these villagers maintain their own culture and intellect. They make their livings out of growing plants within their own lots. However, as different cultures have affected the village, some of them can speak other languages too, for examples, central Thai and Lanna Thai. Sometimes they even follow Thai traditions and dress like regular people.
