Ban Rak Thai ‘Sleep in the middle of nature and be impacted with cool wind.’
If you’re tired of sleeping in a hotel or a normal shelther, then you better move to another atmosphere instead. In northern provinces of Thailand, including Mae Hong Son, there are many nature-surrounded places for you. You may want to set up a little camp at one of them. Ban Rak Thai is one of those. You should try for once.
If you have heard of Yunnan the ethnic group, this is it. Ban Rak Thai village is one of their villages. Their story began when they evacuated themselves to Mhok Chan Pae District years ago. However, not every of them are general people. Some of them came from Kuomintang Party. There will be no strange if you touch the atmosphere of Chinese life in the village. You may even want to put your earphones on and turn on some Chinese music, just to fill the atmosphere in.
People in this village are quite traditional. They don’t leave their culture, but instead they still eat their food and live their lives simply. That is the most outstanding appearance.
Ban Rak Thai village is located on a mountain area, which is about 1,800 metres higher than the sea leve. It is between the borders of Thailand and Myanmar. If you go now, you will see that there are green trees and hills around. This is quite different from the past, as there were nothing but lonely-looking, blank grass fields.
First thing you will want to do when you arrive at the place, is to taste some delicious Yunnan food. If you have never tried any of that before, don’t hesitate. It will be perfect. Those several restaurants in the village will serve you quality food. Just order a few dishes and try.
Then you can have a leisure sightseeing. Go and see some minor tourist attractions in the village. The first one is ‘the lake’, probably the most popular one. It’s very beautiful. Go stand at the shore, take selfies, capture some pictures of the landscape. In the morning, the atmosphere will be most perfect.
Next, the tea plantation. Ban Rak Thai village is also well-known for its tea. The tea plantation is a kind of descending land. There are tea plants and little houses around. You can access the zone from 9:00-18:00. Don’t forget to borrow some hat or a basket, in order to dress like a farmer harvesting tea plants and take some memorable photos.
You shouldn’t forget to tour the living zone too. This zone is where the villagers live. See how they do their jobs, make their livings. There are some souvenir shops, of course. You may want to purchase some. Most of these products will be dry-baked fruit and tea.
Lastly, for those who want to spend nights, there are shelthers ready for service. But you may need to hurry, as these shelther can be full up easily, especially during winter. Anyway, after you get your shelter, you won’t be disappointed, but you will be very happy. Just imagine, you sleep in a comfortable room and wake up in the morning to see the sunrise and cool water drizzle.
