If you see this following name, you may have this question in your mind, ‘What the heck is that?’.

Well, there’s no doubt. ‘The Microwave Mhong Village’ sounds really strange. If you have never heard of this place before, you may possibly think that the village produces a mountains of microwave oven and put them on sale.

No!No!No! and another big NO! This village has nothing to do with microwave oven at all. If you want to know the truth behind this name, then let’s get to the bottom of this together.

After Mr.Mang Panonprai, the first leader of the village, and his siblings had evacuated from Paii County and made their new livings at Ban Maew Doi A S for a year, they moved their location again, to The Microwave Mhon Village this time.

The reason why this village got this name, is that the authorities set up a series of phone and television signal poles in the village. These poles produce microwave, which is a kind of electro-magnet wave of a high frequency.

Although some parts of the village are used for telecommunication, but it’s still a lovely tourist attraction anyway. There are mountains and little charming houses around.

There are about 599 Mhong people inside the village. They are quite friendly, You can just have a sightseeing around and meet them. Try to talk to them and befriend them. Don’t feel awkward. You will do just fine, even you may not understand some parts of their language.

These Mhong people live their lives in simple ways. They are mostly farmers and grow lots of plants: cabbage, tomato, and more. Beside of farming, they can even produce they own herbal medicines, forge their own knives, and make their own traditional clothes. You should see all these during your sightseeing. You will see how they live. You will see their culture.

The most suggested season for you to go to the village, is during winter. During winter, there will be fog, which looks so beautiful and romantic. On top of that, the weather should be cool and comfortable. This will be relaxing for anyone who want to escape from the ghastly hot weather.

How to get there

The Microwave Mhong Village is located at Ban Yod Doi, the Highway No.108, Muang County, Mae Hong Son Province.

After you set up your car in the heart of Mae Hong Som, you can just find the way to the Highway ‘Mae Hong Son-Khun Yuam’ and keep driving along that path. You should be in that way for about 32 kilometres. Then, turn left and continue for the last 8 kilometres. Finally, you will reach the village.
