Celebrate the end of the rainy season and the beginning of winter under the clear night skies of Chiang Mai. Thousands of Khom Loi (sky lanterns) will illuminate the sky during this special Buddhist ceremony, creating a spectacular view that has captivated visitors for centuries.

The festival is not just about the breathtaking visual of the lanterns; it’s a deep-rooted tradition that honors the water goddess and pays respect to the rivers. The Loy Krathong tradition involves releasing beautiful handmade floats on water, symbolizing the release of misfortunes and a fresh start.

  • Shuttle buses depart every 5 minutes from 15:30 to 16:30 (Last shuttle at 16:30).
  • Travel time to Moonlight Sky Lantern festival venue (~30 minutes, 26 km from Chiang Mai).
• 16:30 – 18:30:
  • Arrival at the venue.
  • Show e-ticket for registration at the main entrance.
  • Receive hanging badge and souvenir.
  • Enjoy snacks, Craft and Art zone, Tribal village, and Loy Krathong activities.
• 18:30 – 20:00:
  • Thai Lanna Buffet Dinner:
    • Includes snacks, desserts, and non-alcoholic beverages.
  • Cultural performances and shows.
• 19:30 – 20:15:
  • Enter the ritual area in front of the Great Pagoda.
  • 19:40: Drum and candle show.
  • 19:45: Religious ceremony with monks chanting.
  • 20:15: Launching of sky lanterns & fireworks display.

  • End of ceremony.
  • Transfer back to the city (drop-off points at Maya Shopping Mall or Chiang Mai Night Bazaar depending on traffic).
