Chiang Mai with its enchanting location on the banks of the Ping River is surrounded by mountains, rice fields and lush countryside. Chiang Mai Biking is pleased to share hidden places of Chiang Mai with you during one of our recreational, cultural and educational cycling adventures.
Package A : Chiang Mai City Culture (Half day)
Chiang Mai City Culture Ride is a half day cycling tour that takes you through and around the rich cultural centre of Chiang Mai.
During this ride of 25 KM, we bike as much as possible over quiet roads and small lanes passing beautiful temples and colorful markets while seeing local people continue their daily activities. We ride through small back roads and alleyways around and through the centre of Chiang Mai.
We stop at a silversmith who fabricates beautiful jewelry in different shapes and sizes (sorry, no shopping). We visit the adjacent Silver Temple to see the monks keeping themselves busy making decorations of alloy used for the renovation of this temple.
We continue our Chiang Mai City Culture ride through narrow alleys and small lanes to the centre of the city where we visit Wat Chedi Luang, which was built in the 14th century. Thailand’s most revered Buddha statue, the Emerald Buddha, used to reside in this temple until the Laotian kind took it to Luang Prabang (Laos) around 1545. Nowadays this Buddha statue can be found in Bangkok’s Wat Phra Kaew.
After shooting pictures of this remarkable Chedi we will stop for a refreshment at the Chiang Mai Women’s Correctional Institution. The aim of this institution is to reform and rehabilitate inmates who have almost done their sentences. Their residents are serving light sentences for minor crimes and they come from poor backgrounds, with many being hilltribe women.
Not too far from here we make a stop at the most visited and most beautiful temple of Chiang Mai, Wat Phra Singh. The temple houses a very important Buddha statue: the Phra Buddha Sihing which gives the temple its name.
Our Chiang Mai City Culture trip continues to the outer circle of the centre, passing through a fresh and flower market where we see the most beautiful flowers of the North. This area is called “China Town of Chiang Mai”.
We cycle further and cross the river and stop for another refreshment at a local market. Here we have more time to explain you about, and taste some exotic fruits and/or local snacks. After this stop we take a surprising route back to our office. With a lot of new impressions you return to your hotel!
Since we visit temples during Chiang Mai City Culture, participants are required to dress appropriately.

Our Colors of Chiang Mai bicycle tour is a 4-5 hour amazing bike adventure through the southern part of Chiang Mai.
The northern city Chiang Mai, known as the ‘Rose of the North’, maintains the allure it has held for travelers for centuries.
During the trip participants will learn and see parts of the rich cultural background of Chiang Mai.
The route takes us on quiet and green land roads, passing the historic settlement Wiang Kum Kam, founded in 1286 by King Mengrai. It was the capital of the Lanna empire for a period of only 10 years. We will see temples and ruins dating back hundreds of years.
We make a stop at a local temple enroute. The guide can tell you everything about this temple and about Buddhism in general.
Furthermore, we visit the McKean rehabilitation center; a former leper colony, once cut off from the outside world. Nowadays it is a rehabilitation center for people with many kinds of physical disabilities.
We continue our Chiang Mai bicycle tour and stop at an elementary school mostly attended by hilltribe children.
The ancient Lanna empire produced some of the finest ceramics ever to have been made. These days the northern region still is the major center of Thailand’s pottery industry. At a small pottery we watch the craftsmen make different shapes of pottery by hand.
Riding along the Ping River we breathe in the local atmosphere that makes Chiang Mai so special.
We stop at a local bakery where we have a delicious sweet bun while watching them produce many other different products.
At the market we see the same products back in small traditional shops; and here you have the opportunity to sample some of the most delicious and exotic fruits and other snacks.
During the Colors of Chiang Mai bicycle tour we stop every hour for a short rest and provide you with drinking water or a soft drink. Halfway through the trip we provide a small Thai meal (Khao Soy Kai) in a local restaurant.
Discover the hidden places of Chiang Mai through this recreational, cultural and educational half day Chiang Mai bicycle tour. Join this adventure to the unbeaten paths and to sites where old traditions continue to live on.
